In 1998, after returning to Japan from my studies abroad, I decided to start a studio on my own. Gazing at the clear, beautiful sky of Sweden that I had grown to love, I named the studio Sora Kobo—“Sky Studio.” Like the sky that stretches endlessly and embraces all things, I hoped to create works that contain not only form, but also the subtle presence and lingering echoes within.
My practice began with metalwork, pursuing forms that hold a sense of emergence and expansion, while feeling the texture, weight, and layers of time in each material.
Since 2023, I have shifted the focus of my expression toward jewelry and woodblock prints, seeking to quietly and delicately reflect the invisible—like the flow of air or an unseen presence.
Engaging in a quiet dialogue with materials, I hope to continue creating works that gently accompany everyday life and resonate with the viewer’s senses.
Here I share the concepts behind my works.
Though the words may be vague and fleeting,
I hope they might serve as gentle signposts along the way.
