After years of creating three-dimensional metal pieces, she has always admired the ability of flat works to express the fleeting nature of existence and the flow of air. Woodblock printing enables her to engage in a dialogue with the materials—wood and washi—through their breathing and the harmony of overlapping colors. By printing a base pattern in white ink and layering colors on top, she creates forms reminiscent of cells, offering new landscapes when viewed closely. Drawing on the softness of wood and washi, she seeks to create works that evoke “intangible existence,” “airiness,” and “breath.”
